About

"We don't have to sacrifice a strong economy for a healthy environment."

- Dennis Weaver -

Whidbey Natural Pet was born out of the desire to show that a for-profit business CAN be run with morals and standards, that not everything has to be about the bottom line, and that a business really can be a part of a community. In this world of fast paced trade, where whatever you want is at the tip of your finger... one of our loudest voices is how we spend our money. It is seen on every level, from consumer, to store, to distributor. By supporting small, local companies, all of us can effect the vibrancy and independence of our communities, while also supporting businesses that utilize practices we care about.

*Environmentally sustainable materials
*Training veterans for a career after the military
*Donating to animal shelters and non profit animal groups
*Farmers practicing organic and humane methods
*Companies choosing to manufacture in the USA, keeping jobs local

Whether you are buying a house, a car, or a bag of dog food, your dollar bill does have a voice attached to it, and the spending of it will have consequences. You can direct those consequences by choosing who you give that dollar bill to. When you decide to give that dollar bill to us, we feel honored. To us, our customers are not just another number. They are human beings who have real names, real animals, and are looking for real solutions. They are members of our community. They are friends and family. When you honor us with that dollar bill, we strive to live up to your expectations.

But why dog and cat stuff? Some women love shoes, clothes, makeup... Sarah loves everything DOG and CAT. Animals have always been a big part of Sarah's life. Knowing how important the relationships we have with our animals can be, it brings Sarah great pleasure to help make those relationships better. Sarah got her first 'pet shop job' in 2002, and was hooked. Sticking to the holistic side of the industry, Sarah worked for various shops around the greater PNW. Always feeling like there was something missing, and tired of people profiting off of her passion, Sarah took the jump in 2011 and opened Whidbey Natural Pet.

The focus of the store is health. We believe that when we #lovethroughhealth, we ALL benefit. One of the most important decisions we make everyday for ourselves and those in our care, is what to eat.  Proper nutrition provides the base to enjoy life to the fullest. We know that there is not ONE way to feed everyone. We stress minimally processed, quality, whole food ingredients. But we don't just look at food. Across the spectrum of pet related merchandise, we search for quality products that enhance life, not take away from it. If it's in the store, rest assured there is a good reason for it, and we would love to tell you what those reasons are! By making thoughtful decisions about how we all spend that dollar bill, we can live a full life, while reducing our carbon paw print!

Without writing a book, here are some other points about our business that we are proud of:

*We use all non-toxic, natural products in the store, from cleaning, to painting, to staining.
*We Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ... Seriously! Our counter is an old door, and Sarah kinda has a thing with reusing wood pallets...
*We have been fostering for Oasis for Animals since the year we opened. Helping Whidbey Island's needy and feral kittens get healthy, and find forever loving homes.

We REALLY ARE a family run business. Sarah was born in Oak Harbor, and has lots of family on the island. You might just encounter 4 generations of family in the store at the same time!

Here are just a few local groups we have donated to over the years:

WAIF
Oasis for Animals
Whidbey Island 4-H Clubs
Ryan's House for Youth
Race the Reserve
The Kite Festival
Central Whidbey Little League
Coupeville Babe Ruth
